What is HYROX?

With over 13,000 participants at every event, HYROX is the race that’s taking the fitness world by storm. It combines running with functional workout stations to create a full-body challenge that pushes your limits—physically and mentally. It’s tough. It’s addictive. And it’s open to everyone. Whether you’re chasing a new goal or a personal best, HYROX is scalable, inclusive and made for all fitness levels.

The format is simple: run 1km, complete one functional workout station—then repeat eight times. It’s a powerful mix of endurance, strength and strategy that keeps you coming back for more.

What happens in a HYROX training David Lloyd Class

A HYROX class at David Lloyd Clubs is your chance to train like you race. Taking place on the gym floor, each 45–60 minute session combines running intervals with functional training movements inspired by the official HYROX race format.

You’ll work through exercises such as sled pushes and pulls, burpee broad jumps, rowing, wall balls, and more – all scaled to your fitness level.

Our HYROX training pillars – Foundational (technique and skills), Power (strength), and Engine (cardio and endurance) – ensure every class helps you progress.

Led by HYROX-trained coaches, these sessions will build your stamina, improve your strength, and sharpen your technique so you’re fully prepared for race day or simply ready to smash your next workout.

The training format

HYROX Foundational

This is all about building the basics. With your instructor you’ll master core movements, learn proper technique and boost your fitness step by step. Expect functional exercises that improve strength, stamina and confidence. Whether you’re new to HYROX or levelling up, this class sets the groundwork for lasting results.

HYROX Strength

Blending functional moves with serious lifting to build power, endurance and grit. You’ll flip, push, pull and squat your way through a series of stations designed to test every muscle. It’s tough, it’s sweaty and it’ll leave you stronger, sharper and ready for anything.

HYROX Cardio

Built to get your heart racing and lungs working. You’ll run, row and ski through a mix of endurance challenges that build stamina and speed. Expect sweat, grit and plenty of energy. Walk out fitter, faster and fired up for whatever comes next.

HYROX Complete

Without doubt. The ultimate test – the closest you’ll get to a full HYROX event inside the Club. You’ll take on running, lifting and functional stations in one tough but rewarding session. It’s about endurance, strength and resilience. Train hard here, and race day will feel familiar.

Do I need to be really fit to try HYROX?

Not at all. HYROX is scalable to all fitness levels – whether you’re new to functional training or a seasoned athlete.

How long is a HYROX workout?

Sessions usually last around 45–60 minutes, depending on the class and your pace.

What should I bring?

Standard workout gear, trainers suitable for running, and a water bottle. We’ll provide everything else.

Can I train for a HYROX competition at David Lloyd?
